From the moment I contacted Smartfix I felt my job was important. The communication was immediate and continuous and the job was quickly booked in and efficiently carried out. The workmanship was excellent. I now have 3 new outside lights and a new sensor that work perfectly. Oh and they look great too. Both men I dealt with were professional and helpful.

Smartfix Electricians did an excellent job when my electrics blew. Being a Friday it was very difficult to find anyone however Smartfix came immediately all the way to Mandurah from Clarkson. Everyone was very professional, polite and the workmanship was excellent. They cleaned up after themselves which I’ve never had before. After the job was completed I had two electricians visit to inspect the work which I’ve also never had done before…

I used Smartfix for some electrical work I needed done before putting my property on the market & was so impressed with their quality of work & service. They were quick to quote the job & provide cost effective solutions when what I wanted wasn’t feasible. They left the place clean & tidy after the job even gave my dog a toy which she loved. Highly recommend & would use again!

I have had two repairs completed by Smartfix tradies this week. The oven was repaired by Ryan and Jamie on Tuesday and the work was completed quickly and efficiently. A new power board was installed on Thursday by Tom and John who were very conscientious in explaining the new features of the power board. Even the manager rang me on Tuesday to explain the problems with my old power board. Lovely staff.

Frequently asked questions

Smartfix has developed a reputation amongst our clients as being honest, reliable, efficient and provide a professional service that delivers what we promise.

What is the difference between a safety switch and an RCD?

They are the same thing. RCD stands for Residual Current Device, which is the technical term. Safety switch is the everyday term most Perth homeowners use. Both refer to the device in your switchboard that cuts power within milliseconds if a fault is detected, protecting you from electric shock and fire.

Is an RCD the same as a circuit breaker?

No, they serve different purposes. A circuit breaker protects your wiring and appliances from overloads and short circuits. An RCD protects people by detecting current leakage and cutting power instantly if a fault is detected. Modern switchboards should have both installed for full protection.

How often should I test my RCD safety switch?

According to Australian Standard AS/NZS 3760, homeowners should test their RCD safety switch every 6 months. It takes seconds — simply press the test button and the RCD should trip immediately. If it does not, call a licensed electrician to inspect it as soon as possible.

How do I know if my RCD is working?

Press the test button on your RCD. If it trips and cuts the power, it is working correctly. If nothing happens, the RCD is faulty and needs to be replaced by a licensed electrician as soon as possible.

How much does it cost to install or replace an RCD in Perth?

The cost of RCD installation depends on the number of RCDs required, the condition of your existing switchboard, and whether any additional work is needed. At Smartfix, we provide transparent, upfront pricing — contact us for a free quote tailored to your home.

Are RCD safety switches mandatory in WA?

Yes. WA law requires a minimum of two RCD safety switches protecting all power point and lighting circuits before a property can be sold, rented or leased. A licensed electrician will confirm how many your home needs to meet the Electricity Regulations.

Does Smartfix offer free quotes and same day RCD installation?

Yes. Smartfix offers free quotes and same day available installation for RCD safety switches across Perth. Call us to book and we will get a licensed Smartfix electrician to your door as soon as possible.

How long does an RCD installation take?

In most cases, a standard RCD installation takes between 1 and 2 hours. The time can vary depending on the number of RCDs being installed and the condition of your existing switchboard. Our electricians work efficiently to get the job done with minimal disruption to your day.

Why does my RCD keep tripping?

Common causes include a faulty appliance, damaged wiring, moisture in an outlet, or an overloaded circuit. If your RCD keeps tripping and you cannot identify the cause, call Smartfix and we will diagnose and fix the issue promptly.

Can I replace an RCD myself?

No. RCD installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician. It involves working directly on your switchboard and requires testing and certification to confirm the installation is safe and compliant with WA electrical regulations.
